Most Ohioans have not heard of the Ohio FAIR Plan (OFPUA) until they are
referred to OFPUA by another company or an insurance agent. OFPUA exists to
assist consumers who have trouble obtaining coverage from a standard company.
Like all insurance companies, OFPUA has guidelines that it must follow so
not everyone who applies for coverage is able to get a policy. However,
OFPUA is often able to help consumers that standard companies cannot.
To apply for coverage with OFPUA, please contact an insurance agent. Every
agent in the state — even if they normally do business with other companies
— can help you get coverage with OFPUA. OFPUA does not have a list of "preferred"
agents.
An agent will work for you by explaining what coverages you should apply for
and being a liaison to OFPUA. Your agent will also occasionally check to see if
you can get coverage with a standard company yet.
